Ethics Approval Policy

When the policy applies. The journal "Thermal Physics and Thermal Power Engineering" accepts manuscripts for consideration only if they comply with the requirements of ethics and the legislation of Ukraine, if the study:

  • involves people (patients, healthy volunteers, survey respondents) and/or uses human biological materials;
  • involves animals and/or uses animal biological materials;
  • involves the processing of personal data or confidential information.

Mandatory conditions for publication. Authors must ensure that before the start of the study:

  • the conclusion/approval of the ethics committee (institutional/local) or other appropriate permitting document has been obtained, if provided for;
  • informed consent of participants (or legal representatives) has been obtained in cases where it is necessary;
  • confidentiality/anonymization and legality of data processing have been ensured;
  • for animals - the requirements of humane treatment and minimization of suffering have been met.

Requirements for the “Ethics statement” section in the manuscript. All manuscripts subject to this policy must contain a separate subsection with the following information:

  1. Research involving humans/human biomaterials:
  • name of the ethics committee (institution), number and date of the protocol/conclusion;
  • statement of informed consent (or a reasoned waiver with reference to the ethics committee’s decision);
  • confirmation of compliance with confidentiality and anonymity (especially for medical information).
  1. Clinical trials of medicinal products:
  • confirmation of conduct in accordance with the Procedure of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (including the availability of the ethics committee’s decision) and indication of details.
  1. Research on animals/animal biomaterials
  • name of the ethics committee/body, number and date of approval;
  • a brief description of pain/suffering minimization measures, 3R principles (replacement/reduction/improvement), humane endpoints (if necessary).
  1. Personal data / confidential information
  • data status (personal/pseudonymized/anonymized), legal basis for processing, basic access protection measures;
  • confirmation of compliance with the Law of Ukraine "On the Protection of Personal Data" and the requirements for confidential information.

Documents that the Editorial Board may request:

  • a copy of the conclusion or protocol of the ethics committee;
  • a sample informed consent form/information letter;
  • documentary confirmation of the legality of access to data / biomaterials (contracts, permits, decisions, etc.).

Editorial decisions in case of non-compliance with ethical requirements:

  • the absence of proper ethical / legal confirmation is a basis for returning the manuscript for revision or rejection;

If violations are discovered after publication, the journal applies correction or retraction procedures in accordance with the integrity policy.
