SIMULATION OF PELLET COM-BUSTION IN BOILERS UP TO 25 kW

Keywords: biofuel, pellets, combustion, burner, temperature, domestic boiler.

Abstract

The research is aimed at improving existing and developing innovative burners, with the aim of their effective integration into most existing boilers, ensuring high thermal efficiency and compliance with relevant environmental requirements.

Research methods: numerical with the use of modern computer modeling tools of hydrodynamics, heat exchange and combustion, and experimental – on the existing equipment of the individual heating system.

Results. The paper presents the results of pellet combustion calculations using finite-element CFD models of the boiler and burner in the ANSYS-Fluent software environment. When modeling the components of the Reynolds stress tensor, the Boussinesq approach was used, and the Realizable k-model of turbulence was used to close the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. A comparison of the numerical simulation results with our own experimental data shows a satisfactory match and confirms the possibility of using the selected model for the burner-boiler system.

In the future, the conducted research can be used to increase the combustion efficiency when burning pellet biofuel and to modernize the burners of low-power boilers of communal and industrial heat energy, the social-budgetary sphere, and an individual household sector.
